Jekyll & Hyde: Serving up cocktails with Mod-Sin cuisine

At the time of writing, the COVID-19 restrictions continued to put a damper on the recovery of F&B businesses, especially those located in the Central Business District. With that in mind, I made a trip down to the Jekyll & Hyde one Saturday afternoon for lunch.

Jekyll’s Hua Tiao Bee Hoon: Assorted Seafood, Pork Gravy, Crispy Thin Vermicelli

The Jekyll’s Hua Tiao Bee Hoon was a combination of slightly crispy noodles in pork gravy, when we expected something more similar to white beehoon. The crispy beehoon was a delightful surprise which allowed the noodles to better soak up the gravy. The prawns were also de-shelled for convenience, which made eating the dish a fuss-free experience.

Signature Char Kway Teow with Sakura Beef Slices: Wok-fried flat noodles, dried radish, silver sprouts, sambal

Even before I decided to try out Jekyll & Hyde, I was already hearing good stuff about their char kway teow (CKT) and I am glad to report that I was not disappointed. First, I will have to caution, if you are looking for prawns and cockles in your CKT, you won’t find it here. But Jekyll & Hyde’s rendition of the CKT still warmed the cockles of my heart! The seared beef was tender, but the star of this dish (and my meal) was the flavourful and smoky “wok hei” noodles. This is the dish that would have me coming back for seconds.

Jekyll & Hyde made its name in the F&B industry for its cocktails, so if you there for meals, be sure to save space for its cocktails selection. The menu provided a large variety of cocktails and some with really unique elements. However, as it was our first time there, we decided not to be too adventurous with our alcohol options, so we went for safer-sounding bets.

Peach Please!: Mango Infused Hendrick’s Gin, Giffard Peche de Vigne, Sugar, Egg White

The cocktail came in a quaint teacup. So cute! The cocktail was refreshing and fruity. I really appreciate that the combination was not overpowering even though it was a sweet cocktail.

Hummingbird’s Truth: Chamomile Hendrick’s Gin, Sakura Mancino Vermouth, Black Lemon Bitters

I’m a huge fan of this and I see myself ordering this again the next time I am here. That being said, I would also try the other more inventive cocktails on their menu. (I saw one with squid ink!)

Jekyll and Hyde is a fantastic spot for after work drinks or a night out with friends. The drinks were well-crafted, and I would love to be back to try to other offerings on the menu. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a place with great cocktail (and food) options, excellent service and a cosy ambience.
