Law Society X-Country Run 2023

On the morning of 18 March 2023, the Law Society of Singapore held its Annual Cross-Country run and race at Bedok Reservoir Park. This year’s event was particularly exciting, as it was the first in-person physical race post-pandemic. The event drew a large number of participants from within the fraternity.

The event began at 7am, with participants gathering at the park to collect their race bibs and prepare for the race. The atmosphere was electric, with runners of all various ages and levels of experience buzzing with excitement and anticipation. The course itself was a nice gravel path covering a distance of 4.3km. The running track which was exactly one loop around the reservoir had recently re-opened after a period of improvement works and renovations. The various race categories were flagged off by the Honourable Justice Kwek Mean Luck from 7.30am onwards. Justice Kwek himself participated in the Men’s Senior category race running alongside the senior male runners.

The runners were in high spirits throughout the race. One participant, Eugene Phua, said that he was excited to be taking part in the Law Society’s annual cross-country run and in the Men’s Senior category. “I’ve been training for this race for months now, and I’m looking forward to testing myself against some of the best runners in the fraternity,” he said.

Another participant, Meryl Koh, who was returning to running after a lay off due to injury shared that she was delighted to be participating in the race. “I have always looked forward to this annual race organised by the Law Society. It is wonderful that this event is back and I am glad to be able to run in it after having recovered from an injury,” she said.

As the runners made their way around the course, they were cheered on by crowds of supporters which included family members who had come to show their support for the event. The finish line was particularly exciting, with the air ringing with cheers and applause as runners crossed the finish line.

When the race was over, participants and spectators alike gathered to mingle and socialise. Whilst the event was fashioned as a race, there were, in fact, a good number of novice runners and joggers who participated in the run in the name of fitness. Ultimately, the objective of the run is to promote healthy living and fitness amongst the fraternity and that objective was truly met seeing the turnout and active participation by many. Overall, the Law Society of Singapore’s Annual Cross-Country run and race was a huge success, with participants and spectators alike enjoying the exciting atmosphere and race course.

We can’t wait to see what next year’s event will bring!
